Three people were injured in a serious crash early thing morning on I-95 northbound near the intersection of Route 273. State Police continue to investigate the two vehicle crash which occurred in the center lane. 21 year old Jose Rodriguez of Wilmington was southbound when he struck the front of a car driven by 69 year old Phyllis Nilan of Pennsylvania. She was trapped in her car for about 30 minutes and is being treated at Christiana Hospital for serious injuries. Nilan’s 72 year old husband and Rodriguez were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Charges are expected.

Newark, DE- The Delaware State Police are currently investigating a two vehicle crash in which a Pennsylvania woman was seriously injured that occurred this morning in Newark.
The crash happened at approximately 5:23 a.m. today as Jose G. Rodriguez, 21, was operating a 2002 Mazda and was traveling in a southbound direction in the right center lane of I-95 northbound just north of DE Rt. 273 in Newark. Rodriguez’ vehicle then struck the front of a 2007 Ford Focus which was traveling northbound on I-95 in the right center lane and which was being operated by Phyllis B. Nilan, 69.
Phyllis Nilan was trapped in her vehicle for approximately 30 minutes until she could be freed by responding emergency workers. She was then removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where she is currently being treated for serious injuries.
Phyllis Nilan’s 72 year old husband, who was a passenger in her vehicle, as well as Jose Rodriguez, were also removed from the scene by EMS and transported to the Christiana Hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Three lanes of I-95 northbound were closed for approximately 1 hour as the crash was investigated and cleared. This crash remains under investigation at this time and charges are expected.
