Crash backs up traffic for miles in Interstate 95. This is I-95 north at MM 74 – Franklin St.
RICHMOND, Va. (WTVR) – Virginia State Police are currently on scene of a fatal single vehicle crash on Interstate 95 near Lombardy St.
State police were called to the scene shortly after 3:00 p.m. after the driver ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the jersey wall. The vehicle overturned and came to rest onto its roof.
According to State police, two people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. One occupant was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center with serious injuries. The other occupant died at the scene.
The center and right lanes of I-95 northbound were closed for about three-and-a-half hours. The lanes re-opened around 7:30 p.m.
Police said the crash remains under investigation.
